Rebuilding Life After Cyclone Freddy
Enelesi, a resilient single mother of four children and two grandchildren, hails from the village of Mnyaka in Malawi, where life has been a constant struggle since her husband abandoned her and her family. She worked tirelessly, running a small farming business that provided her with a meager income; though not enough to adequately support her family’s basic needs, including food. Then, Cyclone Freddy struck. The raging floodwaters washed away her crops, eradicating any hope of a bountiful harvest. She stood in disbelief; how would she feed her children and grandchildren?
Thanks to the relief project funded by Baptist World Aid, a lifeline was extended to Enelesi and countless others affected by the cyclone.
Enelesi gratefully shared, “I am relieved by the support from the Baptist Church. I have received maize and vegetable seeds, which I have planted in my garden.”
As the sun rises over the resilient land of Malawi, Enelesi tends to her garden with renewed purpose and gratitude.
