A Journey from Survival to Sustainability. The objective of this project was to improve the livelihoods of smallholder farmers in Hadero Tunto district by enhancing crop and livestock productivity, empowering women through self-help groups and financial inclusion, providing adult education, and addressing harmful traditional practices affecting girls and women.
Mrs. Mullu Elias, a rural mother from Ameleka Kebele, Ethiopia, was selected by the Ethiopian Addis Kidan Baptist Church Welfare and Development Association (EAKBCWDC) for an integrated rural development project. Trained in sustainable farming and provided with improved maize seeds, fertilizers, and pest control, she cultivated 0.25 hectares and harvested five quintals of maize, earning 21,200 Birr. This enabled her to buy a cow, improving her family’s nutrition and income. Free from unstable labor, Mullu now invests in her children’s education and health. Her success has made her a role model, showing how training and support can transform lives.
