The powerful 7.7-magnitude earthquake struck central Myanmar on March 28 at 12:50 p.m. local time, with its epicenter located 16 kilometers northwest of Sagaing near Mandalay, followed by a 6.4-magnitude aftershock just 12 minutes later.
The disaster has caused widespread devastation, with reports indicating over 3,000 fatalities, more than 4,000 injuries, and hundreds still missing. Central regions, including Mandalay and Naypyidaw, have suffered extensive damage, while ongoing rescue operations face serious challenges due to Myanmar’s prolonged civil conflict and severely damaged infrastructure.
