Convention Collaboration

The objective of the visit to Cuba in February 2024 was to participate in the FIBAC Assembly and strengthen relationships with the four Baptist World Alliance (BWA) member partners in the country. The visit included an opportunity for BWAid Director Marsha Scipio to preach at the closing worship service on the theme of “Engaged Hope,” which served to both challenge and encourage participants.

A key focus of the trip was fostering unity and collaboration among the Cuban Baptist conventions, marked symbolically by the planting of two trees and practically through the donation of medicines for distribution in local churches and communities. The convention leaders took a significant step forward by deciding to form a joint council to collectively address medical needs in their regions. Additionally, the delegation met with the Office of Religious Affairs to voice concerns about ongoing limitations to full religious freedom, underscoring the commitment to advocate for the rights and well-being of Cuban faith communities.
